About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... A Timely Interlude....

Lethargy pushed the uphill route aside,
Digging into endless reserves took its toll.
Too often night watch met dawn’s arrival,
Yesterday’s promise always devoured today.
One hundred paces never kept regular time,
Slippage and side roads waylaid good intentions.
The beaten track frequently diverted off-course,
Hurdles and obstacles test a slouching timidness.
The optimum moment just arrives unannounced,
Screeching to a hurried stop and resting place.
An enforced interlude interrupts panicked routine,
Stepping back to breathe and exhale more easily.
Gathering thoughts into a realistic working fashion,
Energy synchronises time’s more placid movements.
Too often the directional pull to all four corners calls,
Carefully sense and feel the most applicable response.

  1. Sometimes it seems life is a bit overwhelming when so many things are tugging at us!! I like "Yesterday's promise devoured today." So often today goes, and one doesn't know exactly where it went. And, as far as the last two lines, it is hard to make a decision what to do amidst such a directional pull, but somehow one has to make a a decision! Good to see you here, Eileen.

  3. I have been struggling with a long list of must-do things over the weekend so I know exactly how you feel Eileen. Sometimes it is indeed necessary to step "back to breathe". Very powerfully expressed!

  4. I often find myself reminding me to remember to breathe...your poem felt a bit like that...and really liked that line about how yesterday's promise devoured today,

  6. This is such a wonderful write, Eileen...and right, too. Those moments when we're completely in them, when everything else slides away, are so rare and infrequent that it makes them even more special and ever more important.

Often been said that an interlude is refreshing, even if it is enforced. It provides a break so that what comes after are better. Great observation Eileen!

  9. Don't we have some tugs, but an escape is in order for everyone at sometime or another. Hope you find your diversion to be quite uplifting.
