About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Prowess and Prestige....

Hours of dusk and dawn lure the owl from its perch,
Hunger pangs satisfied by the stealth of opportunism.
Silent flights accurately guided by feather tip precision,
Far-sighted to seek out even the most concealed of prey.
Solemn in demeanour and impressive in its watchfulness,
Courted and feared by strands of folklore and mythology.
A mysterious aura surrounds this plume coated raptor bird,
Prowess and prestige rest within its camouflaged disposition.

  1. Ah… yes. I far prefer to be a human in the woods at night than a mouse :)

  2. So very true about the mysterious aura surrounding the owl. I think you have captured this in your poem. And your mention of their 'stealth of opportunism' rings true as well. Always good to read your fine and thoughtful work, Eileen.

  4. Not readily seen but heard. One hears so much of the owl and its prowess in the dark. It certainly has that aura of awe and fearlessness. It can tear preys apart to keep its reputation intact! Great write, Eileen

  5. Oh, how you captured perfectly the stealthy life of the owl, Eileen. Fascinating creatures. The odd time I've glimpsed one, I've felt privileged. :)
