About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Fifty-Seven Pebbles....

Memorabilia tucked together on sandy beaches,
Or by the edge of a fast flowing river bank hollow.
Smoothly rounded in their magnificent shapeliness,
Individually marked sweetie coloured characteristics.
Squat and flat or chunky and pinkish with personality,
Ancient indents and lines of chiselled fossil-like features.
Weathered forms battered by constant waves of time,
Washing and lapping in continuous modes of cleansing.
Souvenirs of memories plucked from a myriad of places,
A treasury of tokens saved from the times of experience.
Millions of pebbles scattered across the world’s expanse,
Yet a collection of fifty-seven seems paltry when observed.
Some details recall the dates and the destination to mind,
Each living year represented by a steadily growing hoard.
Conserved and added to as birthdays pass with celebration,
Longevity endures in the being of those rocks for all ages.

That's wonderful Eileen! To keep memorabilia to rekindle back memories is such a great thing to have. it is very therapeutic and kind to the sub-conscious. Great lines !

  2. so you have a rock for each of your years? that would be pretty cool if you started early like that....happy birthday tomorrow btw....a rock would be a cool totem, as they may carry the nicks of time ...and of the lives that intersected theirs but they carry on...

  3. The idea of a collection of pebbles, one for each year, that carry their share of memories and recollections sound so great and personal. Happy birthday, Eileen. May you have a great day tomorrow.

  4. I think that collecting pebbles from different places is a fine idea. Actually I have a similar small rock collection of stones from different places too. I don't think I have 57 though. Smiles. They definitely bring back memories of those 'times of experience' for me though. I know my 'rocks for all ages' will outlive me!! Happy birthday, Eileen!

  8. So you collect a pebble for each year of your life? That would be lovely to see. Or perhaps this is metaphorical. I enjoyed reading this.

  9. A lovely piece. Pebbles hold a bit of geological eternity as well as the memory of the moment it was plucked off a beach. A beautiful expression of that pebble "treasury".

  14. I hope we get to a point in our society where we celebrate our ages instead of trying to manufacture new (and younger) ones. A belated Happy Birthday, Eileen! Hope your birthday year is stuffed full of wondrous things for you!
