About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Rebirth and Opportunity....

Making that first bold move takes much courage,
The contemplation and the deliberation were easy.
Stepping away from what was life’s familiarity then,
Every worldly possession uprooted and packed away.
Closing doors of the old abode was a surreal moment,
Pulling the garden gate shut and not daring to look back.
Nearest and dearest confused in the midst of changes,
Looking beyond the confines of what had been home.
Promise and dreams awaited in a flight of sixty minutes,
The arrival revealed an environment of boring normality.
Leafy slumbers of countryside living in a haven of safety,
Opportunities grasped at every turning point of direction.
One could sit and contemplate the nothingness of something,
Or simply taste life free from the scourges of its daily violence.
That momentous date of departure remains in minds forever,
Yet a rebirth evolved from the perspective of fresh beginnings.

  1. How beautifully you describe the ending and beginning of taking a risk. What is life without them? Your poem reminds me of the independence, freedom, opportunities we think will present themselves when we leave home. It takes time to grasp how these finally evolve. Lovely writing Eileen.

  2. I know the leap of faith and courage that it takes to make such a change, Eileen, when one's reality is not right for one's spirit. I am glad the new beginning afforded you peace.

  5. "Nearest and dearest confused in the midst of changes,
Looking beyond the confines of what had been home."

Courage and then some! But then, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Your poem beautifully lays out the sacrifice for something unknown. Rebirth is worth it.

  8. With every step we take we are beginning anew. I like how you were able to convey such a beautiful message of starting fresh with each coming year in this. Every year is like a wonderful year book to paint a collage with.

  10. Leaving one home can be quite sad but there is the anticipation, the excitement moving in to your new home and the environment as well, especially when you say on your first night "I'm going to like it here".
