About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Only This Presence....

I enjoyed the presence of today’s garden birds,
Nosey red-chested robin as he surveyed his pad.
Nervous grey squirrel with his ever twitching tail,
Clinging to seedcake feed and pinching his moment.
The scent of freshly cut grass in afternoon warmth,
All the sounds of life as it returned from hibernation.
Walking along the canal pathway as the sun glistened,
I captured your shrewd smile in that cheesy photograph.
Remembering how I slipped upon the wooden decking,
We laughed at the frequent mishaps which are just me.
The passing canal barge full of Bank Holiday merriment,
Only spring but we're all wishing to embrace this great day.
It’s not possible to retrace and to repossess past life lived,
Nor does the sun ever quite shine upon your luck exactly.
Yesterday was a day of splendid memories lodged in minds,
This seasonal point is impossible to recapture in its entirety.
We must make use of occasions in our opportunity of being,
The hands of time never reset the presence of this instance.

  4. I enjoyed that canal walk. "We must make use of occasions in our opportunity of being' - so very true since we can never go back in time. It is better to have memories than regrets.

  5. Yes, Eileen -- the hands of time definitely do not reset the presence of this instance; but somehow they do give us other glorious instances... We cannot repossess a past life lived, but we CAN remember. We must go forward with our memories intact...making use of the occasions with which we are presented in the present. We have no other options.

  6. One can never go back, but happily there are memories.

  7. A wonderful take on the prompt Eileen...Awakening is pure joy whether at present moment or in memory though impossibility reigns supreme sometimes and we cannot repossess the past once more...

  8. There is so much truth in this and the impossibility of tracing lost steps. I love your heart in this and the hope this brings.

  9. Wonderful writing! I enjoyed the beautifully articulated reminder to savor the moments of our life - for they will not come to us again, as they are in THE moment.

  10. What a wonderful promenade you've taken us on, Eileen. This was a lovely walk of Springtime sights and feelings, which served as wonderful springboard from which you dove into treasured remembrances. Surely we cannot back, but we can remember with fondness things past and cherish the memories. Lovely!
