About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Silence..

Solitude’s best character
Is found in circumstances
Where thoughts can mature
And thrive
Or simply take time away
Silence is a body’s
Emollient and calmative
It enfolds tense shoulders
And hugs with understanding
Coaxes a subdued spirit
To rise in its own time
Silence affords the space
For a considered response
It’s not loud or demanding
Silence has its own language

  1. Nice. Truth in that last statement, and I agree this is probably the best use of and time for silence. It can be a time for us to think before we speak.

Nice use of the word emollient...not a word you hear used very often.

  2. I agree. Silence and solitudes best position is in allowing us time to think. It has its own language - I like that thought and think there is probably a whole poem just in that.

The use of emollient is very nice.

  3. I love that central image of silence as massage oil--and massage is definitely a circumstance in which I sometimes thrive and often lose track of time as well. Your last 4 lines whisper of silence. Shhh.

  9. Silence indeed is a space to be given. Really love to look at silence from this angle. Beautifully put, Eileen. The imagery of 'Emollient' is absolutely brilliant.

  10. The beauty of silence is its calming effect especially in love and friendship where trust is paramount. So too when we are on our own where our minds relax with contentment. Lucky are those that can appreciate it.
