Distinctly December....

Pressure and panic parcelled together,
Hurtling betwixt and between in unison.
Passing oneself on the slow return journey,
Yet running and leaping through many rings.
This hectic season of the giving and receiving,
Easy online purchases cascade into mighty piles.
Remembering personal proclivities and tastes,
Who is worthy of this purchasing predicament.
In time, rapt with great relief of done and dusted,
The twinkling lights of festive spirit shine through.
December’s presence fraught with best intentions,
Moods swing with benevolent melancholic jingles.

  2. Eileen, your poem resonates with me. I understand the pressure and the panic, and I think we do it to ourselves each year. So true that we always have good intentions, but somehow we always fall into the same seasonal traps. I do wish for myself anyway I'd focus more on the 'twinkling lights of festive spirit' and forget about the rampant commercials.

  3. I love this, Eileen, especially the relief when it is under control and one can just enjoy the season. I am there and it feels good! I ADORE that beautiful bright little bird at the top of your blog. She is so beautiful.
