Placed my feet
Upon the same
Well-trodden tracks
Didn’t stop to think
Of that familiarity
Nor to question
The daily routine
Of easy comfort-
Worn- in like
My favourite boots
Until a day of
Unexpected change
When circumstance
Threw me onto
A different path
New and unknown
My steps out of kilter
For a time
Gradually I realised
That in spite of
Changes to my route;
I arrived at the
destination
Having left new imprints
Of a journey attained.

How profound. I loved how you expressed your journey. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteInteresting perspective!
ReplyDeleteI marvel how accustomed we get to our routes and paths in life and only realise it when we change our route. But new paths are better, a chance to experience something different, learn and grow
ReplyDeleteEileen, it is so lovely to see you! Love the poem, especially the new imprints made by your unexpected journey. Life is full of surprises..........I can hardly believe the journey i have made. It astonishes me.

Ah yes, our life's journey always contains unexpected changes in direction. Well said!
ReplyDeleteHa, it seems my comment didnt post. Eileen, it is so lovely to see you at Poets United. You are one of our very longest members. I love your poem of journeying......life does send us events that turn us down a different path. Looking back, those turnings are often gifts in disguise. They definitely help us grow. I am enjoying watching grandson Michael growing up on facebook!
ReplyDeleteThis has the Frost fork in the road vibe.. so true.
ReplyDeleteLovely to have you back at PU, Eileen. We missed your wonderful lines. Love the flow of the words here. Aah those new imprints definitely enrich us. Beautiful.

Until a day of
Unexpected change" I love the image of the worn shoes and bricks. I have always preferred the familiar. But as you say, in the end I've been glad for most of the surprise and change. Fine poem!
Lots to discover on the new path, Eileen. Embrace it :)
ReplyDeleteI love your point if view in this, Eileen.

ReplyDeleteWelcome back Eileen and thank you for this wonderful poem of journey.
Ah, sometimes that unexpected path can give rich rewards as well! When we start a journey, we never quite know where we will end.
ReplyDeleteAh, and nice to see you again, Eileen! Smiles.
