About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Longing...

I draw back curtains to reveal morning’s mood
My eyes gingerly adjust to the unknown scene
Hope droops upon seeing nothing but greyness
Drapes of cloud bear down through rainy drizzle
Winter’s daily gloom seeps into my disposition
There’s no blue sky of sunshine welcome today
At this time of year motivational energy lags
I simply yearn for springtime’s signs and sights
To see those yellow heads of vibrant daffodils
Bobbling and swaying as winter’s winds rattle
Cheeky little pansy faces smile and endear me
This eagerness to see longer and brighter days
Carries me between seasons of dark and light
December’s traditions add touches of sparkle
Indoor warmth brings festive feasting and fun
Midwinter’s solstice is my time for celebration…

Discernment...

If only hindsight had arrived plentiful as tolerance
Back in those days when I absorbed things silently
If only I had found the courage to have spoken out
Back then rules were made to always be respected
If only life had been more pleasant and more loving
Back in those days when self-confidence was barren
After all, I was said to be an empty carcass of nothing
That constant repetitive preaching lodged within me
Many years of reiteration leaves an indelible wound
Unseen by the world outside the one I had inhabited
It became a way of living to dress the bizarre as usual
Just as simmering milk can eventually rise to overflow
Then a growing maturity accompanied by experience
Reaches an end point with awareness and realisation
No longer am I the mealy-mouthed frame I once was
In later years I found the soul of my own awakening…

Winter...

Each season brings along an individual perspective and manner
Winter can often be a rather rambunctious and moody devil
Creeping inwards to steal away autumn’s glorious colourful fall
Leaving a much bleaker and austere landscape as it rushes in
Its sudden stormy behaviour tosses and turns us without care
Leaving havoc as the elements toy with life’s ability to function
An icy cold demeanour bares down upon countryside and city
Whilst we wrap up in heavyweight coats to sustain our warmth
Gloves and scarves become our new must-haves where we travel
Pockets of tissues and sticky cough sweets from last year’s escapes
As we step outside from the closed curtains of home’s cosy comfort
We gaze in awe at the fresh new snowfall and sparkly icy coatings
There’s a stillness and beauty present within winter’s own nature…
