About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... I Love...

I love the discovery of new destinations
Perhaps an anticipation of the unknown
Which takes my breath away at first sight
Yet leaves indelible memories in mind
It’s the draw of the impending journey
Once all decisions are made and booked
Clothes and accessories carefully chosen
Departure day arrives with an early alarm
Checking and rechecking all is in order
Off to the airport as excitement takes hold
On our way to new places glanced on maps
Between wonderful Alpine Mountain settings
Or the ebb and flow of fresh Atlantic waves
Travelling into seasons of magnificent change
I love these connections to the world of nature
Though no matter where we wander to explore
The masses of many scenic images captured
Returning home is the experience I love most…

  1. Oh yes, Eileen, the anticipation of a new adventure is quite wonderful. Preparing is a lot of fun, though there are last minute stresses to contend with. Wonderful to put one's feet down in a new place to explore mountains, waves, new sites, new foods, the beauties of nature. You have captured the joy well, plus how true about returning home...always nice to relax with one's memories after one's travel.

  2. The small amount of traveling I have done, plus the photos of world travelers I have enjoyed, has shown me there is breathtaking beauty all over this planet. I am happy you have seen so much of it, Eileen. I can feel the anticipation of preparations, the going, the being there, and then the wonderful return home. Loved this poem!

  4. I Love what you love too. Going out and returning to a place we call home. The journey in between makes us so rich with experience and memories to be cherished. The poem echoes my feelings too.

  6. I love travel too, though it's more aggravating than it used to be. And after being gone, home is always new again.

  10. I used to love the discovery of new destinations, Eileen, but Covid killed the adventure in me. Your poem brought back the ‘anticipation of the unknown’; ‘the draw of the impending journey’; and ‘new places glanced on maps’. Like you, I loved coming home.
