Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Silence...

The house within its emptiness has certain sounds
Not just odd creaks and scrapes up in the rafters
More like a very lively imagination running free
As a myriad of silent tones settle around the room
It is interesting to pick up these sounds of silence
Invisibility adds its madness to the cacophony
The mantelpiece clock seems to tick even louder
You are never alone while in the presence of time
There is a movement to life though rarely noticed
During these moments it is possible to reflect
Sometimes it is fine to let the silence simply be
A presence undisturbed by the outside world for now…

  1. I love the silence of indoors. Your clock reminds me of the metal ticking clock on my grandma;s kitchen windowsill. Her house was so peaceful you could hear it ticking in each of the five small rooms.

  2. What an enjoyable poem. You really described well the silence within a house. So true, even in the most silent moments you can hear something, if ever so soft! I like "You are never alone in the presence of time." That was my favorite line. Time is one's constant companion wherever one is! So glad to read your words, Eileen.

  3. I love the way you have written so many strands of life into this, it captures the life so many of us live, and without really knowing it. Well done.

  4. When the outside world truly becomes silent it's worthy "to let the silence simply be". This is indeed a wonderful space to be in either for reflection or just letting the silence soak in. "There is a movement to life though rarely noticed"...I love this line.

  5. Funny how silence is its own sound. I especially loved:
"As a myriad of silent tones settle around the room
It is interesting to pick up these sounds of silence
Invisibility adds its madness to the cacophony" -- Beautifully put.
