About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Vigilance...

Experience and hindsight attach many cautious notes to life

Hard lessons learnt and sorely remembered tend to remain

Mature voices of wisdom sought to instil their tales of woe

While I in my juvenile world, had to test and try warnings

I knew an iron was very hot, but I just had to feel the burn

It’s sometimes hard to fathom the reasoning or stupidity

When untold advisories are blatantly and flagrantly broken

Boundaries are wilfully crossed and dangers are revealed

Some need to taste many poisonous concoctions of evil

In order to verify that they are not at a social disadvantage

Blindly following celebrity trends of wild and crazy living

Such fallout brings pain to broken relationships and homes

Within this world we find ourselves surrounded by mistakes

The dire consequences of ignoring the perils of disrespect

Oceanic life and nature’s very existence is at immense risk

If we fail to heed tell-tale signs indicating our own demise…

  1. "celebrity trends of wild and crazy living"--- This is the malady of modern times. We're overwhelmed with foolishness and blunders. The planet can only survive without the humans. Sigh. A thought provoking poem.
So lovely to see you here at PU Eileen...

  2. I so feel this poem, Eileen. We have all the info, but corporations and corrupt governments care only for profit and stuffing their pockets. They really dont care if the world ends. That is our dilemma. It is so nice to read you this morning!

  3. I also needed to test that the iron was hot. HOW MANY MORE TESTS WILL IT TAKE? Good poem.

  4. I enjoyed this poetic rant :-)
As humans, we always seem to focus on the wrong things.

Very real observation to the present, Eileen! One tends to be taken up with the flow of not so good examples of life around us. Nice to see you again Ma'am!

  7. We like to believe that we learn from experience, so why is history constantly repeating itself? You’ve hit the nail on the head, Eileen, with the lines:
‘It’s sometimes hard to fathom the reasoning or stupidity
When untold advisories are blatantly and flagrantly broken’
    and
‘Within this world we find ourselves surrounded by mistakes
The dire consequences of ignoring the perils of disrespect’.

  9. Eileen, so nice to read you again.
I love this poem. It so well depicts the foolishness which can lead to our own demise. Well done!

  10. If we are all followers, who will the leaders be?

  11. Indeed, Eileen, we have not heeded warnings over the years. We have gotten the earth into a dreadful state, haven't we? Both ecologically and politically, I hope we are not doomed!

On another note, I have been contemplating PU over the years lately. You have always been there...since the beginning. I am always glad when I see you have written and shared a poem!
