Quite often the mind can become a desert
Vacuous and lacking any real connection
On a day when searching for new thoughts
It is obvious that there is only emptiness
A most arid place devoid of contemplation
Useful words are as absent as water droplets
For a time, this is such a godforsaken state
Momentarily a frustrating lack of progress
Like tripping over one’s own tied tongue
When confidence usually glides so freely
Amidst the vastness of usual expression
Such vacancy can return surprising results
Uncluttered minds can facilitate a wonder
As precious as finding a pink desert lily…

It seems like there are a lot of vacant minds these days who are not registering the peril the planet is in. Sigh. Well expressed, Eileen. It is always good to read you.
ReplyDeleteSo very true that sometime the mind can become a desert.. Not a very pleasant time when you just can't find the words! The ending is optimistic though, in that with vacancy can sometimes 'facilitate a wonder.' Perhaps sometime the mind needs such a desert to spur creativity.
ReplyDeleteThat feeling of the mind being vacant is both feared and yet, as you say, a great chance for some rare bloom to flower in the desert of the imagination. Suzanne - Wayfaring - Wordpress blog.
ReplyDeleteCan totally understand that feeling, Eileen... when writers' block hits, it is truly a wretched state...but the pink lily is a real thing and will bloom!
ReplyDeleteI so love this unique approach to the prompt. Absolutely relatable. I am often caught up here for new ideas for poems as well as for prompts. Smiles. "Uncluttered minds can facilitate a wonder / As precious as finding a pink desert lily…" Saving grace, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSometimes, I find I have to clear my mind for a bit, before new thoughts can circulate. You have captured that feeling.
ReplyDeleteA welcome surprise, Eileen, this wonder in a mind uncluttered of comparatively vacuous words and thoughts: welcome and unexpectedly full of beauty. A delight to read.
ReplyDelete"Momentarily a frustrating lack of progress

Momentarily--or even for a few days or longer--before the lily comes. You speak my mind!
