About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Sharing the Journey....

Stepping out together
With commitments and
Marriage vows as shiny
Our wedding rings.
The newness and the sparkle
There to be admired and
For others envied.
Life’s unknowns and potentials,
Reaching across a blank canvas
Yet to be infilled with experiences
And opportunities;
In time, the tapestry of richness matures
As evolving family responsibilities test
Challenges of flexibility and adaptability.
Life’s seasons of love draw onwards and
Anniversaries are collected as treasures;
Each year an affirmation of togetherness
While encouraging individual spirits,
Enhances and complements strengths
Blended and formed within the longevity
Of almost a lifetime of marriage;
A journey of memories shared along the way.

Axis of Boredom....

Scratching at the same surfaces
With the endless repetition of
The same beat and funk,
Stuck in a groove; the same groove.
Rebranded and repackaged as new,
But still the same old, same old chatter.
Wringing out inane details with intensity,
As audiences wait to devour those truths
Chat show dramatics and revelations,
Hosted between the heavens and beyond.
Mundane living clamours for attention,
The rises and falls are exposed at will;
Breaking-news breaks interrupt boredom.
That there is nothing to report causes worry,
Perhaps an actual happening can be mentioned.

Star Gazing....

Profiles raised far beyond this
Earth’s usual grounding,
Placed upon invisible pedestals
Out of reach to most mere mortals;
Many facades of the human form
Aspire to reach up to dizzy heights,
Encouraged by tomorrow’s promise
Of immediate recognition and fame.
Face after face of infamous celebrities
Adorn tatty covers with lives exposed,
Truths and lies falling from newsprint,
As today’s stars enter a brave new world.
Collections of unfashionable habits and ways
Are urged upon those with impressionable minds,
Who seek to replicate that which is of the moment.
This new reality exists on a factitious notion of
Materialism being paramount, to being anyone;
While removing the individuality we seek to keep.
Soulless faces following their misguided dreams,
Nothing more than tacky ornaments in glass cases.

Personal Space....

Alone within herself,
And by herself;
She sits in the darkness
She much prefers.
Drapes firmly closed on
The outside world.
It’s a sadness to visit and observe;
But in truth,
She is at peace and on her own.
Locked forever into this isolation
Without intrusion or chit-chat,
Her absence of mind has rested
All worries and woes as she waits….

Self-Image....

Looking out at you,
From within myself;
Peep-holes to your world
A distance to our perspectives,
And between us.
A sheltered form
From where to engage;
To reach out,
To utter words,
To answer your call.
Identifiers alert me to respond,
From within myself.
Reflections are perceptions
Void of internal connections.
Merely a shadow of the external
Apparel, but a stranger to my soul.
With confidence, little by little
Disclosure aligns me to you.
Though there will always be
Elements enclosed,
Within the self-that’s me.
