About Me

My photo
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, now living in Cheshire, England. I started to write poetry some years ago, as a hobby. I have enjoyed that new venture very much. My preferences are for long and micro-form poetry styles. A first book of poetry ~ Reason Without Rhyme, was published in December 2013. A second book ~ Fifty Seven Pebbles, was published in September 2015...I am presently compiling the content for my third book. Thank you for visiting my Blog... Everyday Living...

Almost every day seems to be off track
Eyes see a half-skewed version of life
Whilst this reality remains out of focus
It’s now so much further from the truth
Than anyone could have ever imagined
Consequences of actions don’t trouble
Bravado is the new kind of governance
It seems that dreams and nightmares
Have perhaps exchanged their positions
Everyday living is an undefined curiosity…

Vigilance...

Experience and hindsight attach many cautious notes to life

Hard lessons learnt and sorely remembered tend to remain

Mature voices of wisdom sought to instil their tales of woe

While I in my juvenile world, had to test and try warnings

I knew an iron was very hot, but I just had to feel the burn

It’s sometimes hard to fathom the reasoning or stupidity

When untold advisories are blatantly and flagrantly broken

Boundaries are wilfully crossed and dangers are revealed

Some need to taste many poisonous concoctions of evil

In order to verify that they are not at a social disadvantage

Blindly following celebrity trends of wild and crazy living

Such fallout brings pain to broken relationships and homes

Within this world we find ourselves surrounded by mistakes

The dire consequences of ignoring the perils of disrespect

Oceanic life and nature’s very existence is at immense risk

If we fail to heed tell-tale signs indicating our own demise…

Gardens...

Nature’s earthy place of heavenly contentment
Hearts souls and minds find a lifestyle balance
Simply for feeling the earth’s soil beneath feet
Floral perfumes tantalise artists' imaginations
As they seek to replicate the blooming vistas
Where even weeds can transform loneliness
Such magnificence forms a place of placidity
An earthly paradise marked by individuality…

Bridges and Walls...

I once lived in a city with bridges and walls
Some to connect and the others to divide
In Belfast they call those walls peace lines
It allows communities to live by partition
Behind dark walls hearts remain fractured
Peace lives within habits of mutual suspicion
Old hatreds fester to poison next generations
Some reach out to try and build a better future
Constructed from new trust and cultural respect
Old hatreds still exist when neighbours live apart
Political bridges have been rebuilt from words
Many have met in the middle to repair tensions
It’s so much easier to share life’s opportunities
When both sides can be clearly seen by everyone…
